FIVE people, two male and three female, were drowned inside the Eleyele River in Ibadan, after their canoe capsized on Tuesday night.
The victims were said to be returning to their home at Awotan at about 8:00p.m.
According to Mr Martins Akinyosoye, who is the security committee chairman of Awotan Community "eyewitness told us that the waves of the rain that fell on Tuesday night caused the canoe which they were moving in to capsized."
Akinyosoye, who informed that the victims had been passing through the river for years, identified them as the chairman of Idimu zone in Awotan, Mr Yusuf, who died alongside his wife, Mr Ahmed who also died alongside his wife and another female visitor to Mr Yusuf.
As at the time of filing this report, all the five bodies had been recovered through efforts from local canoe operators.
