February 14: Boyfriends Cook-Up Excuses To Dodge Valentine

The recent rescheduling of the presidential election from February 14 to March 28 has not gone down well with many Nigerian guys who are dating.

The reason is that many saw the presidential election as the best excuse to dodge the financial obligations that often accompany the lover’s day celebrations.
But the rescheduling of the poll has busted the election excuse which most of them were banking on, leaving them stranded.

A survey carried out by Newscarier.com reveals that many guy are not smiling over the situation as some of them are cooking up other excuses in a desperate move to escape Valentines day which comes up on February 14.
Greg from Festac Town in Lagos says he is a smooth operator. He maintains that he never planned to celebrate the Valentines day and so has cooked up the excuse of traveling so as to avoid spending on that day.
He said his girlfriend wasn’t expecting much from him either as she too was playing the hide and seek game because she wants to avoid buying gifts which according to him works in his own interest.
When asked if his girlfriend doesn’t take issues with him not spending on Valentines day, he said: “I don’t panic when Valentine approaches, If a girl is not alright with my terms then she can go, there are many fishes in the river. Soldier go soldier come.”
Another young man who gave his name as Chills said he thanked his stars that his girlfriend was celebrating her Valentines day in church. He however added that he might take his girlfriend out for a little outing that day.
Chills noted that he had become tired of observing Valentine for years and sees no sense in taking every February 14 serious.
Skulboi on his part says Valentines day is a no no. The up coming artist who recently signed for YEYE Entertainment said it makes more economic sense to be single due to the harsh economic realities in the country.
Ayo Tunde however took a different view, he said even though he doesn’t observe Valentine, he feels boyfriends who wanted to use the presidential election as an excuse to dodge the Valentines day were insincere to their girlfriends.
Sharing the same view with Ayo is Adedotun, a banker who said he doesn’t take Valentines day serious. But he was opposed to guys running away because of Valentine. According to him: “back then in the University of Ibadan a girl spent 25000 on me. This proves that sometimes ladies may take the lead in spending.”
When asked if he was a player, Adedotum gave a mischievous smile that got our reporter guessing how many hearts this Ronaldo had broken.
