The Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of police in charge of Zone
1, covering Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states, Tambari Yabo Muhammad, has
explained how he averted an attack against Presidnet Goodluck Jonathan
during a political rally held in kastina.
He said: “I received information that some thugs had
gathered at the roundabout leading to the stadium where the campaign
would take place, I decided to go there and assess the situation myself.
“On reaching the scene, I saw the thugs carrying all sorts of weapons. If the president’s convoy had passed through that area at that moment, anything could have happened.
“But I personally persuaded the thugs to drop their weapons. I even took away some of the weapons myself.”

Muhammad, while warning youths against carrying weapons, stated
that anybody caught with weapons before, during and after the upcoming
general elections would be arrested and prosecuted.
The AIG also warned Police personnel against receiving
gifts of food or drinks from politicians or members of the public during
elections so as not to be poisoned.
Since the 2015 election campaign started, President Jonathan’s convoy has been attacked on several occasions.
It would be recalled that Jonathan’s convoy was stoned by some thugs during his recent visit to Katsina state for political rally.
