Nigeria’s Presidency dismissed reports that Goodluck Jonathan’s
administration was plotting to remove the Independent National Electoral
Commission (INEC) chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega.
After the elections postponement announced on February 7, Saturday,
reports started circulating in the media that Jonathan was not any
longer comfortable with Jega and wanted to sack him before the
rescheduled polls.
The INEC however denied the rumours adding that the information that a new chair was nominated was “false”.
Vanguard reports with reference to a source from the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) that the reports were mischievous propaganda allegedly orchestrated by the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The official, who pleaded for anonymity, cited security concerns and warned politicians against spreading information that might result in violence.
