Ekiti APC asks members to resist illegal arrest

The All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State has told its members to resist illegal arrests‎ by Governor Ayodele Fayose and his agents.
It also raised the alarm over selective invitation of its leaders by the Ekiti State Police Command over purposes it said were not clear.
The party said such invitation confirmed its earlier fear that the Peoples Democratic Party was working in cahoots with the police.
The Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatubosun, said in a statement on Tuesday that a contingent of armed men had arrived the state from Abuja to start arresting APC members from Wednesday, to unsettle the party ahead of March 28 presidential and National Assembly polls.
But the Ekiti Police Command has denied the allegations.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, Alberto Adeyemi, said “We invited politicians across political parties and held a meeting with them on Friday. At the meeting we briefed them on the reason for banning street rally.
“The meeting we had today was with politicians across political parties from selected Local Government Areas. So there was no selective invitation anywhere.
“There was no contingent of Police arriving from anywhere because all the states and FCT are preparing for elections.”
Olatubosun alleged that the party had uncovered a plot by the governor, working in connivance with the Army and police‎ to assemble fake military and police personnel in Akure on Tuesday for briefing and deployment.
According to him, names of opposition leaders to be arrested are already compiled, adding that plan has also been concluded to arrest APC candidates during the National Assembly election.
“We have it on good authority that a contingent of armed men is being dispatched from Abuja to Ekiti to lock the state down. This will prepare the ground for fake security men to start illegal arrests as was done in June 21 election.
