Labour Party Endorses Jonathan For Second Term In Office

The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Labour Party has endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan for a second term in office.
The decision was taken at the end of the party’s closed door meeting which lasted about three hours during which critical decisions were taken. Before journalists were excused from the venue, the National Chairman, Abdulkadir Sallam, urged the delegates to brainstorm with the best interest of the country at heart.
At the end of the meeting, a communique was presented. The NEC in session submitted that the reasons of age, health status and educational qualification of the APC presidential candidate, Gen Mohammadu Buhari, made it impossible for the party to support him.
Instead, the party pitched their tent with President Goodluck Jonathan for a second term in office as a result of his achievement in restoring peace to the north-east and diversifying the economy.
While he acknowledged the efforts of the Federal Government to strengthen weak sectors, the National Chairman of the Party, Abdulkadir Sallam, who read the communique, urged President Jonathan to further diversify the economy.
The communique further stated that the party may not support further postponement of the election and called on INEC to use the extension wisely.
The Labour Party commended the gallantry of the Nigerian Army for the success recorded in latest onslaught against insurgents and urged them not to rest until victory is certain.
Representatives of Labour Party from almost 10 states, members of the National Working Committee, governorship aspirants and women leaders were all present at the crucial meeting.
