A suspected Boko Haram member, Abdullahi Adamu, has been arrested in Ijora area of Lagos.
The Nation reports that Adamu was nabbed by Operation Mesa (OP Mesa) security operatives in Ijora, Lagos after they got a tip-off from observant residents of the area.
Acting on the tip-off, the security operatives raided the Ijora 7-Up area of Lagos when they were informed about the activities of a terror network allegedly organised by Iranians. During the raid, soldiers were said to have thoroughly checked one of the buildings in the area. Adamu was arrested with a box full of explosives and AK47 rifles all stacked up in the ceiling of the house.
Commenting on the arrest, the paramount ruler of Ijora community, Oba Fatai Ojora said:
“We have been calling on the state government to do something about this. This is the second time we will arrest Boko Haram suspects in this community and nothing has been done on that. The one we caught now had even admitted that he is a terrorist. You know that majority of the northerners in Lagos live in Ijora, Agege and Badia.’’he said.
Another member of the community who spoke on condition of anonymity said “People came to me that they saw one man on the internet and that he is a member of Boko Haram, saying they know where he lives. They said they are going to his house and identify him. They arrested him and handed him to Oba of Ojora.”
About a year ago, a suspected member of the dreaded Boko Haram sect was arrested after he allegedly attempted to gain access to the Nigerian Airspace Management Authority (NAMA) office in Lagos, for the purpose of bombing it.
Meanwhile, Senator Shehu Sani said that the federal government needed to release some Boko Haram insurgents in exchange for the abducted Chibok girls and other persons kept in captivity for negotiations to work.
He stressed that the government and the insurgents must come to the table with an open mind and be ready to reach an agreement.
Earlier this week, one of returnees from Boko Haram camp made a shocking revelation about the abducted schoolgirls. According to a 21-year-old Tabitha Adamu, Chibok girls are now Boko Haram fighters.
