Senate Minority Leader and former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Chief Godswill Akpabio, has condemned fresh agitation for the creation of the sovereign state of Biafra, just as he called on parents and community leaders in the South-East and South-South regions of the country to ensure that they caution and educate their wards on the negative implication of their actions.

Akpabio stated this while receiving members of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly led by its Speaker, Hon Aniekan Uko, who paid him a courtesy visit in the National Assembly in Abuja on Thursday.
According to the Senate Minority Leader, “for those of us who witnessed the civil war, we should not be seen to be supporting this needless struggle because it is an ill wind that will blow no good, no matter your status or political affiliation.”
Akpabio noted that, “no matter the level of disaffection among different groups within the nation, there are better and lawful channels in which any aggrieved group or individuals can explore to get a redress instead of engaging in outright lawlessness. Let us all rise in unison to condemn any group that is bent on destroying the oneness of this country because our strength as a country lies in our unity.”
Speaking further,  Akpabio stressed the need for the entire country to be united so that the much expected development which Nigerians are yearningfor would be delivered, saying “let us all shun all forms of divisiveness. President Mohammadu Buhari needs peace for sustainable development and this can only be achieved if he is focused.”
Earlier in his speech, the Speaker, Hon Uko said the purpose of their visit to the Senate Minority Leader was to congratulate him on his “uncommon emergence as the senate minority leader despite the fact that you are not ranked just like myself.”
“We have come here today to tell you that you shouldn’t be bothered about what people are saying about you. We are the people to tell Nigerians whether you did well or not. We are here to tell the whole world that you did a lot  for the people of Akwa Ibom State as their governor,” he said.
Uko stated further that “whatever we are enjoying today in the state, you put them in place and that is why we have come to publicly declare today that you are our leader and you will remain so. Those who are not comfortable with what is happening in our state have been advised to resign from politics and they have started doing that,” he said.
Responding, Senator Akpabio declared, “today is the happiest day of my life. I thank Governor Udom Emmanuel for making this visit possible. Your visit today, signifies love and  unity which are the bedrock upon which development and dividends of democracy could be achieved. Iam very proud to be your father. I also thank my colleagues in the Senate for reposing their confidence in me by making me their leader.”
Akpabio charged the lawmakers and indigenes of the state to rally round the state governor, Udom Emmanuel in his effort at taking the state to the next level.
