PDP Chieftain Now Campaigns For Opposition

Only five days before the governorship elections are held across Nigeria, a chieftain of the PDP in Abia state, Chief Tony Ukasanya, has started campaigning for the governorship candidate of the APGA, Dr Alex Otti, in the state’s guber election scheduled to be held on April 11, 2015.

According to a PM News report, the PDP chieftain on Monday at Ubakala, Umuahia South local government area, during a reception in honour of Otti by an Abuja-based business woman, Josephine Nwaeze, urged the the people of Abia state to vote massively for the APGA candidate.
It was reported that Ukasanya, a member of the Board of Trustees of the PDP, described Dr Otti as the only one in Abia with the capacity to transform the state.
He said Otti had excelled in the banking industry as Diamond Bank’s chief executive officer and had the requisite experience, exposure and network to attract local and international investors to the state.
“He knows where all the financial grants and aids are domiciled in the world and he will access them for the development of Abia.
“Besides, Otti is humane and will touch people’s lives positively, if elected.
“This is a man that is accomplished and during his school days, he always came top in class and he graduated with First Class in Economics and I am sure that he will be a first class governor in Nigeria.
“We do not want a governorship candidate that is being sponsored and cannot exercise self-independence which has been the hallmark exhibited by past administrations in the under development of the state due to their poor background,” Ukasanya said.
In the same vein, the Abuja-based business woman, Mrs Nwaeze described Otti’s emergence as a new dawn for Abia, saying that God had finally beamed his light on the state for its success and prosperity.
She said that women in the locality resolved on the candidacy of Otti due to his sterling qualities and would vote massively for the APGA gubernatorial candidate in the April 11 elections.

She, however, appealed to Otti to remember women when he becomes the governor.
Meanwhile, during his remarks Otti stated that he decided to join the race out of a strong desire to rescue the people from penury and abject poverty.
He said: “I have come to fix our state and save our people from further impoverishment by heartless and wicked leaders, who are insensitive to the plight of the people.”
Dr Otti assured the people that he would deploy the state resources to the development of all sectors of the state economy, if voted into office.
The APGA candidate last November resigned from his position as the managing director of Diamond Bank to join the murky waters of politics after he dumped the PDP for the APGA.
According to Vanguard, Otti picked the APGA governorship nomination form after paying the N2 million for the expression of interest and the N10 million for the nomination form at the APGA National headquarters in Abuja. He stated that his decision to join the APGA was borne out of his strong belief in the party’s ideology and his determination to rescue Abia state from total collapse.
He said: “I have left the PDP and to me coming to APGA is like a home coming for me, I like to use this opportunity to thank you for warmly welcoming to your office and welcoming me home. I have always said APGA is not a political party but a religion for Nigerians, some of you will recall that when our national leader died, we did everything to make sure that he was given a befitting burial. I was the Chairman of the finance sub-committee. I am very happy to be back home. We have a mission to take back our state and put it back on the part if progress and industrialization.”
Otti was one of the gubernatorial candidates of the PDP in Abia state that protested the outcome of the party’s ward congresses in the state.
