The
Federal Road Safety Commission in Osun said 33 persons had died in road
accidents in the state in April.
Mr
Muhammad Hussaini, the Sector Commander, disclosed this during an interview
with the News Agency of Nigeria in Osogbo on Thursday.
According
to Hussaini, 26 crashes occurred in the state within the period under review,
and that 231 persons were involved, while 123 persons were injured.
He blamed
most of the incidents on speeding, poor condition of the roads and failure by
motorists to comply with road traffic rules and regulations.
He said
the incidents were also caused by human errors, recklessness and impatience,
and warned that the commission would continue to apprehend violators.
The
sector commander, therefore, called on motorists, especially commercial
drivers, to always obey traffic rules in order to prevent carnage and loss of
lives on the roads.
“Drivers,
especially commercial drivers, should maintain their vehicles’ engines, use
good tyres, good wipers and other mechanisms needed to keep their vehicles in
good condition at all times,” he said.
He
commended the Osun government for complementing the commission’s efforts at
reducing road accidents in the state.
