A rare astrological event will not herald the end of the world this weekend, the Mormon Church has told its followers.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was forced to make the announcement after apocalyptic statements from a Mormon author heightened fears that the end of days was nigh.
The statement from the church coincides with a 'blood moon' lunar eclipse, which will appear red in the sky and is also a supermoon, meaning it will seem larger.
A Christian pastor has previously warned that this celestial event - the fourth lunar eclipse in two years - could mark the start of terrible events worldwide.

The Mormon Church told its 15million followers to be 'spiritually and physically prepared for life's ups and downs' but warned people not to speculate about when Doomsday would be.
The apocalypse is a key part of Mormon religion and many of its members prepare their homes with extra food and water in case of any disaster.
There were fears a small minority within the church had been influenced by the books of Julie Rowe.
Ms Rowe claims to have crossed into the Spirit World in 2004 after a near-death experience, and now predicts impending doom.
